No topic is as current as the climate change: Extreme heat, hurricanes and glacier melt are endangering the earth. The cause of the human-driven climate change is the increasing emission of greenhouse gases, especially carbon dioxide (CO2). The alarming numbers in recent years have also made industrial companies rethink their actions and have prompted them to put a greater emphasis on climate-neutral production.
To initiate environmental and climate protection in the printed material sector, there are now production processes that that can be certified as proof of compliance with environmentally responsible production methods
1. FSC Certificate
The FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) label was created with the aim of encouraging the environmentally-friendly, responsible and economically feasible management of forests. The strict set of requirements that every certified company must comply with include, for example, a guaranteed commitment to reforestation of new tree populations.
Bearers of the FSC label (printing companies) can evidence a gapless production “chain of custody” from the forest to the paper product. Whether 100 percent of the raw materials used in the paper is FSC-certified or the product is completely recycled – there are different types of certification – the label always stands for environmentally responsible production.
2. Climate-neutral Production

In addition, printing firms, like other companies, can also employ climate-neutral production processes. In climate-neutral printing, the emissions generated by the production processes are evaluated, measured and “neutralised” through the purchase of emission reduction certificates. Each certificate serves to support an environmental project being conducted by other parties, thereby neutralising the unavoidable emission of greenhouse gases.
